Learning Happy Hour: Rabbinic Environmentalism EditionOn Thursday, 10/18 at 7pm, ease into fall with the Wandering Jews for the October edition of our Learning Happy Hour series. This month's edition will be led by Rachel Wetter, a former Hebrew school teacher who now works for Hazon, a Jewish environmental organization. She will be talking about the ancient Jewish value of sustainability, as reflected in the Talmudic concept of "baal taschit." RSVP to Lisa and check out the Facebook event. WJOA Trivia NightOn Tuesday, 10/30, monthly Trivia night is back! Join your WJOA friends and show off your knowledge. This month's Trivia Night will be at Raven's Head Public House at 7:45pm. Shabbat Across AstoriaOur next Shabbat will be on Friday, 11/2, when we're bringing back Shabbat Across Astoria! This means we'll have a few different gatherings going on simultaneously, so everyone will be able to schmooze with other Wandering Jews in smaller groups. Here's how it works: E-mail Marc ([email protected]) by Sunday, 10/28. He will e-mail you back on 10/29 to let you know who your host is. We will also send you a sign-up sheet, so you can let your hosts know what you're bringing. All meals will be vegetarian. Dorot Package DeliveryPlease join us to deliver Thanksgiving meals and visit with senior citizens on Sunday, November 18 at 11am. Visits last about an hour; DOROT provides a meal to deliver to each senior along with a small Chanukah gift bag. All new volunteers participate in a brief orientation. Song Share in the SukkahOn Thursday, September 27 at 6:30pm, join the Wandering Jews of Astoria at the Long Island City waterfront for a spirited evening of song in the Sukkah. Come share your favorite folk songs--Jewish or otherwise--and unwind along the East River. Feel free to bring instruments and refreshments, but please no alcohol as this is a public park.
