WJOA x Davening Dreamers Central Park Potluck

The sun is out and we should be too. We're co-hosting a potluck & inviting you! Join the Wandering Jews of Astoria and the Davening Dreamers of Forest Hills on Sunday July 23 at 1pm for a relaxing potluck in the Central Park Sheep Meadow, followed by a riveting game of ultimate frisbee. Bring a blanket & dairy/pareve dish to share. Email Eli Steier for the sign-up sheet if you will be there!

Trivia Night

Our winning streak continues! We'll be returning to Sek'end Sun for trivia on Monday July 24 at 7:45pm & all night happy hour. Please email Robin Herman if you plan to attend so that we know how many seats to save. See the Facebook page for updates.

WJOA Presents: A Songwriter's Showcase

Dan Rauchwerk has worked hard to put together a "Jewish Songwriters in the Round" event featuring three local Jewish songwriters (Dan along with Sam Kestenbaum, and Andrew Weiss) on August 3, 8pm at the Shillelagh Tavern. They will be playing their songs and discussing the motivation behind writing them. While the songs are not necessarily religious in nature, Jewish culture plays a significant role in their creative process. For updates see the Faceback event page.

Ice Cream Happy Hour

Skip the booze and have your calories covered in whipped cream and sprinkles! Celebrate the summer with Wandering Jews and some ice cream onThursday August 10th at 7PM at Cold Stone Creamery (25-98 Steinway Street). Intoxicatingly delicious! Email Zahava Lipton to RSVP. Shabbat Across Astoria Potluck

We are trying something new August 18th – Shabbat Across Astoria. We will have simultaneous services and potlucks at different apartments around our neighborhood. The more attendees we have, the more locations, so attendance is only limited by your imagination.

Volunteer Day with GallopNYC

People power + horse power = A Fun day of volunteering with GallopNYC! We will be helping out on Sunday July 16th from 9am-12:30pm. Volunteers enjoy the personal satisfaction of helping children and/or adults with developmental, emotional, social, and/or physical challenges, all while working with and being around horses, one of nature’s most empathetic animals. The volunteers will be supporting the riders and helping out with different tasks, for example, setting up lessons or helping a child put on his helmet.
Each rider is supported by up to three volunteers – one leading the horse and one on each side of the rider.
NO EXPERIENCE is NEEDED. GallopNYC will provide training.
A love of horses is helpful, as is a desire to work with individuals with a disability.

Book Club Brunch UPDATE

NEW DATE! NEW TIME! We'll meet for brunch and discuss "The Human Stain" by Philip Roth on Sunday July 16 at 1:15pm, location TBD. It could take place anywhere in Astoria!
