Shabbat in the Park

Friday, June 16, 7 p.m. 
Astoria Park 

In anticipation of summery weather, we will have Shabbat services and a potluck dinner in Astoria Park. Bring a blanket or lawn chair to sit on! RSVP by Wednesday, June 14 by filling out this Google Form or emailing Brian to receive the location and the spreadsheet to sign up for the vegetarian potluck. Here is the Facebook event.

  • Donate to Aid in the Ukraine Crisis
    • Last February, WJOA member Jonah Schrogin volunteered at JCC Krakow, where he packed and sorted food for Ukrainian refugees. If you'd like to contribute, here is their Ukraine Crisis Appeal. JCC Krakow is a 501(c)(3) organization, so any donations made are tax-deductible. Please write “Ukraine donation via Jonah Schrogin, int vol” in the comment box.
    • Another fundraiser is benefitting GlobalGiving's Ukraine Crisis Relief Fund. This supports more than 80 non-profit organizations on the ground in Ukraine and in the surrounding areas providing humanitarian aid, such as shelter, medical care, food, and clean water. Contribute here, and you can get more information by emailing Jonah, including seeing a recorded presentation.
  • Help Earthquake Survivors in Turkey and Syria
    • Two powerful earthquakes struck Turkey and Syria on the same day, killing more than 3,000 people and injuring thousands more. Homes, businesses, and critical infrastructure have been destroyed under layers of rubble. Your donation to the Turkey and Syria Earthquake Relief Fund will provide emergency relief and fuel long-term recovery efforts in Turkey and Syria. Donate to GlobalGiving's Turkey and Syria Earthquake Relief Fund here.

  • BOAST: Best of Astoria & LIC 2023 Spring Party
    • Come to Rivercrest in Astoria on Sunday, May 7, at 3pm, where we'll celebrate the current BOAST: Best of Astoria & LIC winners! We'll provide some snacks, there will be a cash bar, and we'll have a raffle for great prizes from local businesses. Registration is $15 (plus fee), and goes up to $20 the day of the party. Sign up at boast.nyc/party. Please RSVP to Jonah if you will be coming. We hope to see you there!
  • Philip Feldman, a close friend of board member Jennifer Verbit has recently passed away. He became involved with Wandering Jews of Astoria during the pandemic and attended many of the Zoom Shabbats and activities since he lived in California. Phil was a big postcard collector and enjoyed sending postcards. Next week May 7–13 is National Postcard Week. Jennifer would like to invite you to honor Phil by asking you to send postcards to your friends and family during that week in May. If you would like to be included on Jennifer's postcard mailing list, please send her an email at [email protected].

JCC Krakow Presentation and Happy Hour

Recently, WJOA member Jonah Schrogin went to Poland to volunteer at JCC Krakow, where he sorted and packed food for Ukrainian refugees. Come see his short presentation and learn how you can contribute to the cause. Then stick around for Happy Hour at Heart of Gold, one of the new great bars in Astoria. Shabbat in the Park and Restaurant

Friday, April 28, 7 p.m. 
Athens Square Park (30th Ave and 30th St, Astoria)

The weather is once again nice enough for our Shabbat in the park and restaurant. Join us for Kabbalat Shabbat in Athens Square Park (bring something comfortable to sit on). After services, come for dinner at Namaste (31-15 30th Ave, just a 3-minute walk away).
