The Miracles of Chanukah: Co-sponsored with 20s & 30s at Central Synagogue
Monday, November 30, 7 p.m.

One of the foundational commandments of Chanukah is that we should "publicize the miracle" by displaying our Chanukah menorahs in our windows. We are familiar with the story of the oil that lasted for eight days, but Chanukah is a holiday of many miracles: a wondrous light, a military victory, and a community coming together in common cause. Join us as Rabbi Dan Ross of Central Synagogue discusses these miracles. We'll also learn about the miracle of the mutual aid groups that have been formed across New York City in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic and accompanying recession, plus how you can get involved. Register here.

Jews do Comedy (a brand new concept)!
Wednesday, Dec. 16, 8–9:30 p.m.

Alright, we admit… Jews doing comedy is as old a concept as the Hillel sandwich. But hey, we’re Jews — we’re partial to tradition! So, as your Chanukah candles burn down, open up your laptop and join us for some virtual, traditional, fun! ($5 – click here to purchase tickets – lineup TBD). Here is the Facebook event.

Christmastime for the Jews
Thursday, Dec. 24, 7 p.m.

In order to keep this very popular annual event COVID-friendly, we'll be enjoying dinner from the comfort of our own homes and watch The Prom together via Teleparty. Please note that you must have a Netflix account and have the Teleparty extension downloaded on Chrome. More details and Facebook event coming soon! RSVP to Meredith if you can make it.

About The Prom: A troupe of hilariously self-obsessed theater stars swarm into a small conservative Indiana town in support of a high school girl who wants to take her girlfriend to the prom.

Combat food insecurity in our city!
Mayor Bill de Blasio estimates that over 2 million people — roughly a quarter of the city — could be food insecure, according to a recent article by Eater New York, linked here. This article also details a number of ways that you can get involved with local groups to help combat hunger! Check it out and get involved!

One of our favorite local groups is Astoria Fridges, community fridges that provide free, accessible food to the Astoria community 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. If you have an excess of food, donate some to an Astoria Fridge near you (click here for a map of locations).
Have an event you'd like to organize or share? As always, please don't hesitate to send them our way! Stay safe and well during these trying times!
