Learning Happy Hour: Rabbinic Environmentalism Edition
On Thursday, 10/18 at 7pm, ease into fall with the Wandering Jews for the October edition of our Learning Happy Hour series. This month's edition will be led by Rachel Wetter, a former Hebrew school teacher who now works for Hazon, a Jewish environmental organization. She will be talking about the ancient Jewish value of sustainability, as reflected in the Talmudic concept of "baal taschit." RSVP to Lisa and check out the Facebook event.
WJOA Trivia Night
On Tuesday, 10/30, monthly Trivia night is back! Join your WJOA friends and show off your knowledge. This month's Trivia Night will be at Raven's Head Public House at 7:45pm. Trivia begins at promptly at 8pm. RSVP to Zahava so she can save you a seat. Facebook event soon to follow.
Shabbat Across Astoria
Our next Shabbat will be on Friday, 11/2, when we're bringing back Shabbat Across Astoria! This means we'll have a few different gatherings going on simultaneously, so everyone will be able to schmooze with other Wandering Jews in smaller groups. Here's how it works: E-mail Marc (email@example.com) by Sunday, 10/28. He will e-mail you back on 10/29 to let you know who your host is. We will also send you a sign-up sheet, so you can let your hosts know what you're bringing. All meals will be vegetarian. All dinners will start at 7 p.m. (Note: We won't be having services this time.) Check out the Facebook page here.
Dorot Package Delivery
Please join us to deliver Thanksgiving meals and visit with senior citizens on Sunday, November 18 at 11am. Visits last about an hour; DOROT provides a meal to deliver to each senior along with a small Chanukah gift bag. All new volunteers participate in a brief orientation. We hope you join us for this special opportunity to make a difference in a senior’s life. Contact Jenna to sign up and for more information. Facebook invite soon to follow.
November Book Club
Please join us us for the November edition of the Wandering Jews of Astoria Book Club, where we will be discussing The Man in the White Sharkskin Suit by Lucette Lagnado (368 pages). We'll meet for a book club dinner and discussion on Monday, November 19, at 6:30pm at a location TBD. RSVP to Jonah and direct any questions to him as well and check out the Facebook event.
