Learning Happy Hour
Join us for some drinks and some Jewish learning on 9/13 from 7-10 PM at Bonjour Crepes and Wine. You can come to either portion - No stress! This month we will be getting ready for the high holidays by exploring the Yom Kippur haftarah.
What we will be learning:
What does it mean to be a good Jew? On the morning of Yom Kippur, we read from Isaiah 57:14-58:14, which discuss the concepts of repentance and fasting. G-d commands Isaiah to counsel the Jews to not simply fast for their own sake, but to extend their practice to alleviating all oppression. This haftarah pushes us to consider how our observance supports our values. We will examine this text, as well as contemporary commentaries, songs, and poetry that explore the concept of social justice in Jewish culture. Led by WJOA board member Lisa Huberman. Email Lisa to let her know you'll be there! Facebook invite coming soon!
If you would like to attend High Holiday services locally, you've come to the right place! We've put together this handy list of free & discounted options HERE. If you have one for us to add email Brian Mawyer!
