A Hanukkah Bush Grows in Astoria

Picture
After a successful show last year, The Wandering Jews are once again heading to the Shillelagh Tavern for an evening of drinks, storytelling, and Channukah cheer. In addition to a list of hilarious performers, we'll also be holding an open mic to give anyone the opportunity to share your holiday tales.

This year's storytellers include:
Zoe Yellen ("Truth Serum" podcast and live show at Q.E.D.)
Malaika Martin (The Kaleidoscope Project)
Eitan Levine (Elite Daily, Cheddar)1
Yotam Tubul (Runnin’ on Empty with Yotam and Lisa)
Featuring Musical Performances by singer-songwriter Corey Sky!

Hosted by Zoe Yellen and Lisa Huberman, who is a playwright in residence with the Mission to (dit)Mars Propulsion Lab and has performed at venues throughout NYC including Q.E.D., La MaMa, Dixon Place, and Access Theater.

WJOA Shabbat Hanukkah

Picture
Share a couple of latkes with the Wandering Jews at our next Shabbat potluck on 12/7, which coincides with the sixth night of Hanukkah! We'll be gathering at Jonah's apartment for davening, dinner, candlelighting, and some holiday cheer. Services start at 7 p.m. E-mail Jonah (jonah.schrogin@gmail.com) by 12/5 to RSVP. He'll send you a spreadsheet, which you can use to tell us what you're bringing (latkes, Latka, or anything you desire—as long as it's vegetarian). חנוכה שמח

Learning Happy Hour: Jews and Intersetionality

Picture
For the December Learning Happy Hour, Amparo Abel-Bey will lead us in an enlightening conversation about the way intersectionality can help us as Jews process many of the anxieties we are feeling, as well as connect with other marginalized groups to build a more just world.

Amparo is a former participant in the Grace Paley Organizing Fellowship with Jews for Racial and Economic Justice, which works to dismantle racism and economic exploitation by advancing systematic changes that result in concrete improvements in people's everyday lives. Since completing her fellowship, Amparo has continued mentor current fellows and to support future Jewish leaders.
