On Christmas Day, we'll meet at Congregation Sons of Israel in Astoria at noon for a kosher Chinese lunch served buffet style, then we'll walk to Regal UA Kaufman Astoria for a movie. (Avatar 3 will be in theaters.) Join us for just lunch, just the movie, or both. This will be a Bring Your Own Beverage event, and it will be $20 to cover the cost of food. Join WJOA as we partner with Adamah NY and Astoria Center of Israel (ACI) for “From Oil to Oil,” an evening of olive oil tasting and climate reflection in preparation for Chanukah. We’ll savor fair trade olive oil alongside bread, cheese, olives, and other treats while exploring the miracle of the oil. We will use traditional and modern texts to uncover how this ancient Chanukah story offers unexpected insights into our modern relationship with climate and sustainability. Bring your own menorah and come to the Bohemian Hall & Beer Garden downstairs to join WJOA in lighting the candles for the first night of Chanukah. *You are also welcome to attend without bringing a menorah.
