Happy Hour with Moishe House LIC

Thursday, April 23, 6pm–8pm
Fifth Hammer Brewing Company (10-28 46th Ave, LIC)

Join us for Happy Hour this month in LIC as we hang out with Moishe House LIC at Fifth Hammer Brewing Company. Pitchers of beer and light snacks will be provided! Check out their beer, cider, wine, and non-alcoholic drink menu here. Food will be available from NANA, and you can check them out on Instagram here. Additionally, outside food is allowed in. Plus, there will be live music from 6–9pm in the Brewside Lounge, featuring Saxabrewer Chris Cuzme and a rotating group of friends. Find out more about Moishe House LIC here. Counting the Omer – LIC Brewery with Adamah NY and ACI

Focal Point Beer Co (43-50 12th St, LIC)

Join WJOA, Adamah NY and ACI (Astoria Center of Israel) at Focal Point Beer Co in LIC on Tuesday, May 5 at 6pm for beverages, a learning portion on the Omer and beer in Jewish tradition, then dinner. It's Cinco de Mayo, so you can get food from the Mexican restaurant next door (or from the pizza place or Indian place from around the corner). WJOA and JDC Entwine Walking Club – Astoria Edition

Sunday, May 10, noon–2pm
Astoria (RSVP for meeting location)

WJOA is partnering with JDC Entwine for a neighborhood walk. Join JDC Entwine trip alumni and Greek Jewish community members for an informal 2.5 mile walk around Astoria. We will stroll by some Greek landmarks and Astoria Park, and end with Greek desserts. This walk is #4 in a series of internationally-themed walks, inspired by JDC’s work with Jewish communities around the world. RSVP on Partiful to see meeting location. Here is the Facebook event.

  • The Brass Owl, a popular boutique in Astoria, Queens, known for its curated selection of new shoes, accessories, jewelry, and gifts, with a vintage-inspired vibe, is unfortunately closing its doors after 11 1/2 years of being a part of the neighborhood. They have invited artists and vendors to sell their products for a one-day pop-up shop within The Brass Owl. Stop by every day this month, you never know what you'll find.  

    WJOA long-time members, Jennifer Verbit and Ilana Siegel, will be selling their artwork at The Brass Owl on Thursday, April 23, noon–5pm.

      6:00pm | Main Sanctuary & Pavilion
      Join our vibrant 30s & 40s group for Shabbat services in the Main Sanctuary, followed by a private sit-down dinner with community leaders and Rabbi Sarah Berman in the Pavilion. Register here
    • Central Synagogue has a vibrant, lay-led group for people in their 30s & 40s. The group regularly sits together at Shabbat services, goes out for Shabbat drinks, and organizes additional events for holidays and general gatherings.

  • WJOA member Eli Steier has a website called Whole Heart Torah, for resources on Jewish meditation and spiritual direction.
     
  • Donate to Aid in the Ukraine Crisis
    • In February 2023, WJOA board member Jonah Schrogin volunteered at JCC Krakow, where he packed and sorted food for Ukrainian refugees. If you'd like to contribute to JCC Krakow's Ukraine relief program, here is their Ukraine Appeal. JCC Krakow is a 501(c)(3) organization, so any donations made are tax-deductible. Please write “Ukraine donation via Jonah Schrogin, int vol” in the comment box. 
       
    • Jonah has another fundraiser, this one benefitting GlobalGiving's Ukraine Crisis Relief Fund. This supports more than 80 non-profit organizations on the ground in Ukraine and in the surrounding areas providing humanitarian aid, such as shelter, medical care, food, and clean water. Contribute here, and you can get more information by emailing Jonah, including seeing a recorded presentation.

    • 30s/40s Shabbat is usually the third Friday of the month, where they go to services at Central at 6pm, and then they have a small area reserved at Draught 55 at 7:30pm. You're always welcome to meet them directly there.

Let's go to Urban Vegan Roots! They are a vegan kosher restaurant, which is a rare find. However, we will have to enjoy the moment; they are unfortunately closing their doors at the end of March.   • Volunteer with DOROT; Deliver Joy to an Older Neighbor
    DOROT welcomes volunteers to participate in their Passover Package Delivery to connect with older members of our community. This event takes place on Sunday, March 22, 2026, 10am–12:30pm, at two locations:
    1. DOROT: 171 West 85th Street, off Amsterdam Ave.
    2. Moise Safra Center, 130 E. 82nd St, between Lexington and Park Ave.
     
    Volunteers check in, pick up a package, deliver it to a DOROT older adult participant, and share an in-person or phone visit. For more information and to register, please visit: Passover Package Delivery | DOROT
